Abstract: | The results of the First Population Census of Sudan, which was conducted in the winter of 1955/56, as published in the 1st-9th Interim Reports (1957-8), 'The Population of Sudan' (1958), K.J. Krotki: '21 Facts about the Sudanese' (1958), and the Town Planners' Supplement, Vol. II (1960), have been accompanied by a large number of maps which represent the results of an investigation, carried out at the same time as the census, into the distribution of the population within the known administrative areas, and into the most suitable manner of representing the patterns thus revealed on a series of maps. The present article is an account of the production of these population maps on the basis of a post-war census. Figure, references, table. |
