| Abstract: | This paper examines issues and problems, through a case study, emanating from the 1984 currency exchange exercise. Over 460 respondents were interviewed as regards the problems faced by the population and key issues arising from the exercise. It was noted that a major underlying cause of the problems faced by the population was not unconnected with the liquidity preference or high desire to hold money or cash by Nigerians instead of making use of the banking systems.
