Abstract:After examining the meaning and the economic importance of the concept of devaluation, the author reviews the major theoretical models of devaluation and subsequently presents a more appropriate model for the Nigerian economy on the basis of which he discusses the likely effects of a possible devaluation of the naira. He concludes that notwithstanding the position of the devaluation optimists. it is obvious that devaluation produces many adverse results. The current structural makeup of the Nigerian economy does not support a devaluation. Bibliogr., notes.
