Abstract: | la 'Expectations in Rhodesian Inflation' (Rhodesian J. Econ. 10(1976), 4, p. 204-211) H.R. Griffiths argued that not only consumers' price expectations played a part in generating and substaining the rate of inflation in Rhodesia, but that these expectations have adopted an ineressing importance over time. Specifically it was argued that in the period since 1973 the increased pressure of both internal and extemal inflationary tendencies have heightened expectations of a continning price inflation, thus emphasising the increasing importance of this factor in generating and sustaining inflation. This paper tests the validity of this hypothesis by employing a model which functionally relates current price changes to current changes in price expectations. Ref. |
