Abstract:In this article the author explains why relations between Israel and South Africa have been so wewl consolidated in the 1970s. The author analyses the positions of the two countries during the period 1919-1948, their relations between 1948 and 1967, the role which has been and still is played by the Jewish community of South Africa in these relations, as well as this community's relations with apartheid. This is followed by an analysis of the development of these relationships in the periods 1967-1970, 1970-1972, and in 1973. This analysis shows that the rapprochement which increasingly developed in the relations between Israel and South Africa was due to several reasons of different nature.
