Igala
Abstract:The Igala speaking peoples, numbering 400,000 in 1962, live in the middle belt of Nigeria. They have a wide knowledge of and a deep interest in the physical aspects of disease and discuss illness in purely physiological terms. The nonmaterial or supernatural aspects of Igala beliefs about the causes of disease provide a key to the Igala system of diagnosis and treatement. Notes, ref., appendix: Some Igala terms for different illnesses.
