Abstract:It is not easy to make sense of recent trends it Lusophone Africa. This article outlines in highly simplified terms some of the dominant political interests at stake (as they appeared in Febr. 1975) and also sketches some of the underlying strategies seemingly in effect at that date. Sections: Portugal - socialist bloc nations - People's Republic of China the USA and NATO nations - South Africa - Rhodesia - Zaire - Zambia, Congo (Brazzaville), Tanzania, Malawi - Mozambique - Angola - developments through March 1975.
