Abstract: | Kabali (who was to become Omuwanika of Buganda, 1925-28) kept a lengthy journal of his travels with the East African Transport Corps and, at the end of the war in East Africa, submitted a formal report to the Kabaka and his three ministers. The journal starts with a list of the European officers; this is followed by the names of Kikyimba (the Muganda leader whom Kabali succeeded) and his subordinate chiefs. It contains detailed descriptions of their march, a total of 1,565 miles from Kampala westwards into Rwanda and then southwards to the capture of Tabora, until finally they returned by canoe from Mwanza. Kabali displays a considerable power of geographical observation and description. Notes. |
