Abstract:The manuscript in question - recently in the possession of the African Studies Library at Boston University - bears the title 'The Zagwe Kings of Mediavel Ethiopia' and was written by Mr. George Binet in 1963. The manuscript represents a substantial examination and assessment of the Zagwe period in Ethiopian history (11th-late 13th centuries) based upon standard published literature. Probably the best synthesis on the subject at the time of its completion, it has now been surpassed by more recent studies. Even so, this manuscript should still be of interest to those seriously investigating the Zagwe period. This paper offers an evaluation of the manuscript and its author. Notes.
