Sefwi polities
Abstract:Since the middle of the 17th century the territory now known as Sefwi (the North of the Western Region of Ghana) has served as a centre of refuge for people escaping from the political centraliza-tion policies of the Akan states. The social and political systems of Sefwi have been much influenced by the immigrants: in the social sphere by the highly developed pure Akan clan system, in the political sphere by the politico-military division of the state into wings.
