Abstract:Birmingham, in 'The date and significanca of the Imbangala invasion of Angola' (J.A.H. VI, 1965, 2), pushes the date of contact between Kingurfs successor Kasanje ka Imba and the Portuguese to 'in or before 1575'. If this is correct both invasions were contemporary and should be dealt with as one huge movement. By reviewing briefly for both invasions in succession when they arrived in Kongo and Angola and from where they came the question of the simultaneousness of the invasions and its causes is handled in this paper first; then follows speculating as to the causes and the process which led to these gigantic upheavals. The two migratory movements seem to be of Luba origin. Notes; French summary.
