Abstract:Kabalega was the most famous of the Babito kings who ruled the empire of Kitara. His prominence arises from the fact that it was he who halted the decline of the empire and to a considerable extent restored the fortunes of the once powerful empire. One of the provinces he reconquered was Palwo. This article traces the origin, course and consequences of the conflict between the Palwo and Kabalega and shows how Kabalega ultimately succeeded in being accepted by the Palwo as their ruler.
