| Abstract: | The educational and skill training system of Arab countries has not been able to meet the requirements for certain skills and for highly trained manpower. In higher education especially the emphasis continues to be on the humanities. The situation is aggravated by the continued 'brain-drain', while in occupations demanding lesser skills large migrations of labour have developed. A rationalization of the labour market on a regional level should thus be a high priority. A common Arab Labour Market would help to achieve this end; in addition the existing regional training and educational centres should be strengthened and made more accessible to nationals of all Arab countries.
