| Abstract: | This issue contains a selection of the papers presented at the third Khoisan Conference, held in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1997. Most of the papers had a Cape regional focus. During the 1970s and 1980s Khoisan studies was dominated by themes of occupancy, colonial disposession and resistance. In recent years, there has been a move towards interpreting Khoisan history and culture primarily in terms of a project of cultural retrieval. This conference, which was structured around issues of identities and cultural heritage, reflects this changing emphasis. Notes, ref. |
