Abstract: | This article deals with a range of historical, economic, and geographical factors which have influenced the production and distribution of Virginia tobacco. The introduction of the Imperial Preference in 1919 the exodus of expatriates after independence, and the increased costs of labour have effected a fluctuation in the production. Soil type, climatic conditions, and transport facilities are factors which influence the geographical distribution of tobacco production. Seven tables, two figures, notes, and ref. |
