Abstract: | Liberia, of all the West Africa countries, has been the slowest to develop an adequate transport system. One of the reasons for this is the fact that the country has had no tradition of European colonialism. Dramatic growth, however, is now taking place in the transport sector of the economy, and one important component of this growth is the trucking industry. This study examines the road transport and natural rubber industries in order to better understand the costs of road transport in Liberia. Parts: The development of a trucking industry - The independent rubber farmers (analysis of the costs of commercial road transport borne by independent Liberian rubber producers, and a breakdown of the types of vehicles used for rubber transport).
