Abstract: | Views the novel 'Chaka' by the Sotho writer Thomas Mofolo from various perspectives. This work is approached from various points of view - as metaphor, as fate, as tragedy. This is rejected by Scheub, not because it is impossible so to view the novel as one of fate or tragedy, but because other considerations lead one to the conclusion that this is a psychological novel mainly, in which the author uses metaphor and allegory as his primary analytical devices.
