Abstract: | Aims at an analysis of African thought through the use of proverbs. In most interpretation of African philosophy religion has occupied a central position. A total understanding of African thought however, calls for other methodological approaches. A systematic analysis of African proverbs provides a point of departure. The first section uses proverbs to demonstrate the possibility of developing a patterned logical thought. The concept of the individual in his relaxion to others in the society is used as a vehicle. The second section addresses itself to the concept of God and the individual's relation to his universe. The article is confined to Ibo proverbs. Notes. |
