Abstract:One of the worst effects of colonialism and colonial evangelization in West Africa is the suppression of the indigenous West Afrian culture in general and the indigenous religious worship in particular. Okigbo, who left his traditional culture and religion for the foreign ones, returned at a moment of mature realization to the indigenous culture and original religion. The generative impulse behind the poems of Okigbo discussed in this study, resulted from this conflict. Notes.
