Abstract:The attitudes of secondary school pupils in Malawi towards programmed learning were measured during two experiments, investigating respectively individual and paired use of programmes, and the effects of constructed and multiple choice responding across four categories of learning. In only one of the three schools used were there any significant differences between the attitudes of the treatment groups (significantly more favourable attitudes on individual working were recorded at this school). Attitudes were very favourable towards programmed learning, declined significantly with longer exposure and then appeared to level off. A clear, though not uniform, relationship between favourable attitudes and amount learned from the programmes was found. Ref., tables.
