Abstract: | In this paper aspects of the present law are set out, followed in each case by a commentary and by recommendations for legislation where the commentary reveals that some change seems desirable. Aspects of the law which are covered in this way are: notarial and privileged wills, codicils, underhand wills, general recommendations based on the South African Act of 1953, revocation by subsequent marriage, inability of indigni to benefit, and the effects of intestacy on the surviving spouse, adopted children, a sole surviving grandparent, illegitimate children and incestuous children.
