Abstract: | The entry of Islam into the cultural life of the Nuba peoples follows the usual well-known processes of infiltration and syncretism which have been described for many tribes. Cultural elements become partially Islamized, or are remodelled, or continue as before but with an Islamic cachet. On the whole, Islam has not made very serious inroads into Nuba social structure as yet. The author has tried merely to point out some factors which he feels might well be borne in mind in relation to the spread of Islam and the degree of its acceptance.
