Abstract: | Less known, but of considerable significance, is the scramble among different Christian denominations and their respective missionary bodies for areas of influence. This article shows that the opening of the Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS) at Onitsha in 1925 by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) was not unconnected with the vicissitudes of the rivalry between the CMS and the Society of the Holy Ghost Fathers at Onitsha during the first quarter of the 20th century. The foundation of the DMGS was due, not in the last place. to the activities of local communities. Notes. |
