Abstract:In this article the author argues that there is no reason why government should have a monopoly in education and suggests an alternative paradigm, based on free market principles, to achieve objectives of equity and efficiency in education in South Africa. The alternative system the author thinks is particularly useful in the South African context, is based on an education voucher and loans scheme. Ref.
