| Abstract: | Not much work has been done on the literary qualities of Igbo oral poetry. This study is an attempt to delve, to a limited extent into this most neglected field. For a start, only two related aspects of the litarary qualities of Igbo oral poetry - metre and rhythm - are dealt with, and these aspects are illustrated from songs, chants and recitations. Personally recorded and transcribed materials are used here. Occasionally, references are made to texts of Igbo oral poetry already in print. Notes, ref. |
