Abstract:	The Social Welfare and Probation Division bears two specific areas or subdivisions: Social Welfare and Probation. The author first deals with Probation and then Social Welfare because the Probation Service came first into Tanzania. Probation in the context of law and the courts is a treatment plan through which, after adjudication, possible other punishment is suspended leaving the offender at liberty, subject to conditions imposed by the court, and under the supervision and guidance of a probation officer. As tima went by the Division found itself dealing with not only probation cases but also social welfare cases.
