Abstract: | The present document presents the life and living conditions of the population in a Dakar shanty town in 1979, as well as comments by the inhabitants on the future of their urban district and how this future is influenced by present action, i.e. what represents development for a shanty town. The research consists essentially of conversations and discussions with the population in a shanty town, conducted mainly in groups and with presence of an interpreter. Drawings were used to sound out the opinion of the children living in the district, and are used here to illustrate opinions put forward by the adults. Fig., note, ref. |
