| Abstract: | In the course of Igbo literature from its earliest beginnings to the 1940's, the influence of the missionaries and of Peter Nwana's Omenuko have been far-reaching. Peter Nwana was the first Igbo to publish fiction in Igbo. His novel Omenuko, published in 1933, is analysed in terms of its contents and impact on later Igbo writers. By virtue of its pioneer status, Omenuko is still the foundation of modern Igbo creative writing. Notes. |
