| Abstract: | After an analysis of the various types of Igbo political systems, the author describes the political system of a typical Igbo village-group, the largest political unit, and the spirit and convention of Igbo governments and politics. The political units (village, village-group, tribe) were linked to each other by economic, matrimonial and other social ties. The conclusion is that the indigenous political systems were highly intricate and complex as well as highly advanced and efficient for the needs of the times they were designed to meet.
