Abstract: | In 1959 a census of the Uganda population was carried out; non-Africans and Africans living on their premises, were enumerated in March by means of a schedule which was designed to be completed by heads of household with eventual assistance from the enumerators. The census of Africans was carried out in 2 parts: in August all persons were enumerated by means of a hut count, information on sex, tribe and broad age group being obtained. This general census was followed by a sample census in which about 5% of the African population was enumerated. The purpose of this article is to bring together in a small compass the main results of these censuses. |
