Abstract: | Survey of Enugu, the capital of the Eastern Region and the only coal mining town in West Africa. The town is situated in the northern part of the Region on the railway, but standing apart from the main centres of population and trade. It registered a population of 62,764 at the 1953 Census and has grown rapidly since then. In 1959 its population could be estimated at 75,000. It was almost immediately after its foundation chosen as the seat of administration. Enugu has grown into a large market centre. Figures. |
