Abstract: | This article explains the background of the Portuguese thought with regard to Angola: They have a very long, very old connection with Africa; with their philosophy of lusotropicalism they tend to the creation of a genuine multi-racial society; they are anxious as to the effects on the welfare of the mass of Africans of a premature grant of independence before there are sufficient trained personnel who can take over and carry on without too great a deterioration in efficiency. After some remarks on the various nationalist movements and the troubles in 1961 the author gives his opinion upon Angola's political and economic prospects. |
