| Abstract: | The bibliography (which includes items in 15 languages) is intented only as a guide. Its incompleteness will be readily seen. There is also some inconsistency in the inclusion or exclusion of historical studies not devoted specifically to Christian history, of popular books and juvenalia, and of works dealing with contemporary Africa. Generally speaking, works of general history have been entered if they contained very considerable reference to churches or missions, or, in some instances, to notable Christian figures. Popular works published in Africa, or which seemed to reflect local knowledge or original material, have also been entered rather than excluded. In same way articles in popular magazines (and occasionally newspapers) have been entered. Not included are items earlier than 1961. Reprints of works appearing before 1961 are included if they bring substantional additions or revisions. With regard to material on the ancient North and East African, and on the Egyptian and Ethopian churches are excluded items appearing in Bibliographia Patristica. Basis of classification are the modern political divisions. |
