| Abstract: | Statistical data on blindness in Nigeria are almost non-existent because blind registration is not obligatory; but there is no doubt that several cases of blindness in childhood are preventable. The present study was designed to define as clearly as practicable the aetiology of ocular morbidity in children; and where this leads to blindness, to find preventive methods which do not necessarily involve ophthalmologists, who are in short supply.
