Abstract: | A health self-management experiment has been going on in Pikine since 1975 with the support of central and local government. The organisation of the health services reflects village structures. Following the example of the village committees and through appropriate means of communication, the ward health committees are capable, through a system of self-financing and self-management, to provide a health service covering primary health care. While it may be true to say that improvement in conditions and level of health have not been dramatic, nevertheless the basic tool has now been fashioned. Ref. |
