Abstract:Diplomacy is here defined as 1) the conduct of relations between governments through negotiation or the articulation of conflicts of interest and the methods and art of such conduct, and 2) foreign policy. This article deals with selected aspects of Zulu diplomacy which encompassed the relations between the Zulu government and a) the neighbouring African peoples (Swazi, Sotho, Hlubi, Cunu) and b) the white groups which in the 19th century intruded upon the power sphere of the Zulus (Boers, British).
