| Abstract: | The subjects of this investigation were about 40 undergraduate students (mean age 20 years). An open-ended structural questionnaire was used, employing the categories described by R. Brown (Social Psychology, 1965). The results show that in most cases friendship was formed between people of the same sex, of about the same age, and in particular of the same school. Spatial considerations play a less important part than social and psychological factors. Linguistic and ethnic factors seem to be overshadowed by an elite consciousness. The Zambian students have only few friends among those who come from other parts of Africa. Religion seems to have a more powerful influence than tribe or language. Ref., French summary. |
