Subject:local government reform
Abstract:The Nigerian institutions of local government are in great need of review, reform, reorganization and revitalization. This statement follows the recognition of the important role of local government units in promoting and running community services, and thereby encouraging greating citizen involvement in the running of their own affairs, and the use of local resources to the maximum extent possible. The inability of local government units to fulfil the functions expected of them constitutes the major reason for the call for reform. This is exposed in the following sections: Introduction - Defects of the existing government system - Proposals for reform - Analytical models - The data - Empirical results - An evaluation of government's reform proposals - Conclusion.
