| Abstract: | How and when do political actors and observers perceive and acknowledge growing social inequality and class formation? Successive phases of Ugandan politics, from 1961-62 onwards, are reviewed, and the way in which both politicians and academics have perceived whatever has appeared to be the problem is reconsidered. Differing interpretations - traditionalism, politics of ethnicity, class politics', army rule - have closely succeeded each other. How should such a sequence of changing perspectives itself be interpreted? Notes, ref. |
