Abstract: | The article describes the regrettable political development of Malawi during the independence since July 6, 1964. The power of the Prime Minister, Dr. Hastings Banda, has been increased by a series of increasingly repressive measures issued under the Preservation of Public Security Ordinance. The Young Pioneers are the youth wing of the Malawi Congress Party and they have been transformed into a private army under the direct and exclusive control of the President. Other acts and measures of the government too offend against the principles of the Rule of Law. Under the Republican Constitution Malawi became a one-party state. The International Commission of Jurists is concerned at the alarming state of affairs in the country. |
