Abstract:Review of mainly Third World, Christian literature on Southern Africa, in particular that dealing with the subject of violence/non-violence as strategies for liberation and social justice. The first part of the review discusses the general question of 'What is violence?' and the legitimacy of the use of power. Part two gives an account of the various (violent or non-violent) ways that people within or outside these Southern African countries (South Africa, Rhodesia, Mozambique, Angola, Namibia, Zambia) are propagating or practising in their struggle to combat institutionalised violence. Lit., notes.
