Abstract: | Any interpretation of race relations as practiced (or ignored) in the British colonial situation needs to separate out from the generic social dimension the specific dimensions of religion, class and sex. In addition, the role and reputation of the Club during the era of colonial administration is suggested as a self-contained research topic with enormous potential. Research along these lines could contribute to a fuller analysis of race relations and colonial administration, transcending the polarization, which exists between the two schools of thought currently predominant, viz. the favorable school with its emphasis on the face-to-face nature of colonial administration, and the hostile school, which argues that, race relations were nothing more than race rejection.
