Abstract:Purpose is to describe the social backgrounds, variability in recruitment and training, traditions and skills of three generations of hunters of the Bisa community of the Luangwa Valley. Sections: the Valley Bisa - types of hunters and magic - becoming a hunter and initial training - initial kills and ceremonies - three generations of hunters in process. Conclusion: the principal formulators of change are the government and the world of commerce, the rise of a new entrepreneurial class being the main consequence. Notes, ref., résumé.
