Abstract: | The author reviews the several stages in the political development of Rwanda and Burundi since the end of the 19th century. The different internal political situations in these countries had a negative influence on their economic and political relations. Several reasons, originating as well from internal political circumstances as from political attitudes towards neighbouring countries, defeated attempts at co-operation between Rwanda and Burundi after they had acquired national independence. The future for co-operation between these two states is still uncertain. Ref. |
