Abstract: | In 1970 a major curriculum innovation was launched by the defunct six Northern States of Nigeria (now ten states) under the leadership of Ahmadu Bello University Institute of Education and joint efforts of the United Nations Children's Fund and UNESCO. The project was first known as the UNESCO/UNICEF Assisted Project but later and now It Is popularly called PEEP or Primary Education Improvement Project In the ten Northern States of Nigeria. PEIP has taken a fresh look at primary school activities and proposed emphasis on the following subjects to be included In the Primary School curriculum: 1. Primary Science; 2. Primary Mathematics; 3. Primary Social Studies; 4. Health and Physical Education; 5. Oral English; 6. Reading In Hausa and English; 7. Creative Activities; 8. Cultural Activities. Sections: Introduction - Foundation of PEIP - PEIP size and development - PEIP achievement - PEIP constraints - Conclusion. Fig., notes, ref., tab. |
