Abstract:The 'southern' frontier here referred to is the belt along the southern borders of Zimbabwe, the region on both sides of the Vembe River (Limpopo) and extending into Botswana and Mozambique. The author examines the ethnic history of this region because this region is a vital indicator of the early ethnic composition of the Bantu tribes in Zimbabwe and of the early ethnic structure of the Bantu family.
