| Abstract: | This article discusses development planning in Kenya as it relates to women: both planning for them and increasing their role in planning. It is based on interviews conducted in 1981 with senior staff of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, and the Ministry of Social Services, as well as personnel from the Central Bureau of Statistics. Information was also gathered from a thorough reading of District Development Committee minutes for all Kenyan Districts from 1980-81. Finally, existing government documents such as the annual reports from various ministries were examined to assess the quality of data available on women's issues. At the end the author presents some recommendations for future planning. - Diagr., ref., tab. |
