Abstract: | This report (undertaken by the Institute of Adult Education, University of Zimbabwe), dated 1974, is an exploratory investigation into the needs of rural African women in the Mekoni Tribal Trust Land of Zimbabwe. It arose from request of the World YWCA in Geneva who asked for information on: 1) What rural women think ere the needs of their villages, e.g. literacy, health end sanitation, water housing, transport and improved agricultural methods; 2) Whether there are organisations working on these needs, end how successful they are; 3) What their idee of a good village life is. The report consists of an ec-count of a brief visit, designed as a pilot study, to Mhondoro Tribel Trust Land and a longer study of the needs of rural women in Makoni Tribal Trust Land. The study is limited to en investigation of the major needs and problems of rural women as perceived by themselves end their suggestions on how needs can be achieved and problems overcome.
