Abstract: | Review of OAU's role in promoting peace, development and regional security in Africa. The first part examines the OAU's promotion of peace and regional security in the restricted sense, that is the extent to which the organization has been effective in providing 'political security' in Africa. The second part concentrates not only on the broader aspects of the concepts of peace and security, focusing attention on the organization's confrontation with the issues of development, but also on the functional interrelation between security, peace and development. The OAU is shown over the years to have been generally ineffective. Notes. |
