Abstract:Overview: This paper is an attempt to examine and evaluate Nyereres political and social philosophy. The first part will be a study of Nyerere's concept of man, i.e. his anthropology in the philosophical sense. The second part of this paper will examine how Nyerere's politico-economic thought hinges, or is predicated upon his concept, view and notions of man; and how on the basis of this (his antropology) he envisions structures of society (political, economic, social, educational) which by being consistent with his view of man protect, uphold and safeguard the dignity, sanctity and humanity of man. The third section of this paper will comprise the conclusion and a situating of Nyerere in the mainstream of socialist thought. Notes.
